EVE DE HAAN

Eve De Haan is a London-based artist known for her evocative neon artworks that blend language, light, and lived experience into luminous storytelling. Her distinctive practice merges personal reflection with cultural critique, using short snippets of text to capture emotional nuance and spark deeper narratives within the viewer’s imagination.

At first glance, her work is direct: glowing words rendered in soft neon curves, spelling out familiar phrases or emotionally charged thoughts. But beneath the surface lies a more complex inquiry into language, identity, communication, and the shifting meanings we attach to the words we use. Her artworks are minimal in form but maximal in resonance, each one acting as a prompt, a spark, or a beginning.

Eve’s journey into text-based work stems from her background in theology. Studying the power of language to convey moral and spiritual meaning, she became fascinated by the ways in which a few carefully chosen words could encapsulate entire belief systems, fears, hopes, or relationships. Neon, once the domain of advertising and nightlife became her medium of choice. Through it, she explores “how malleable definitions of words and phrases can be,” transforming commercial signage into poetic, personal statements.

Her work draws from everyday encounters, fleeting conversations, and the emotional textures of modern life. With themes ranging from youth culture, technology, desire, heartbreak, to nostalgia, Eve’s neon phrases are both diary and mirror simultaneously confessional and universal. “Expressing my experiences is part of my form of storytelling,” she explains. Her pieces don’t present complete narratives but offer tantalising openings that invite the audience to finish the thought, bring their own emotions, and form a connection. “I believe storytelling expands the imagination… it is a way of carrying culture.”

Eve’s creative ethos is grounded in accessibility and emotional resonance. Her work connects across generations and social boundaries because it speaks to the shared experience of navigating a world overloaded with messages, yet often starved of genuine connection. Whether it’s a glowing “Are you ok?” in pink script or a statement that makes you double-take, her pieces sit at the crossroads of vulnerability and confidence.

Her work has been exhibited across Europe and the United States, in iconic spaces such as the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles. She’s also extended her reach beyond gallery walls taking part in Instagram Lives for Tate Modern, featuring in major media interviews, and showcasing on billboards across London. She’s created bespoke artworks for brands like Nike, bringing her signature blend of thought and light into the realm of public and commercial art.

For Eve De Haan, every artwork is a story in short-form, glimmering, emotionally alive. Through light and language, she continues to redefine how contemporary art can speak, connect, and shine a light on the quiet complexities of our lives.
