IZAAK BRANDT

Izaak Brandt is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, whose work pulses with the rhythm of movement, memory, and metamorphosis. Trained as an international breakdancer, Brandt channels the discipline, dynamism, and improvisational energy of the dance floor into a powerful visual language that spans painting, sculpture, film, and performance.

At the heart of Brandt’s practice is the body as subject, tool, and archive. Whether through a mark made in paint or a gesture captured on film, his art is in constant motion. Every medium becomes a stage, and every process becomes performance. The boundaries between visual art and physical expression dissolve, giving way to something intuitive, lived, and urgently alive.

His background in breakdancing isn’t just biographical, it’s structural. Brandt’s approach to materials mirrors a dancer’s relationship with music and space: responsive, rhythmic, and deeply embodied. From the curve of a sculpted form to the pace of an edited film sequence, his work is choreographed with care and collision. It's an artform forged in movement, driven by repetition, experimentation, and energy.

Brandt’s works often begin in motion, gestural marks, spontaneous textures, instinctive cuts and then evolve through a process of layering, distortion, and transformation. His paintings become fields of tension and release. His sculptures, fragmented, fluid, architectural feel as if they’re caught mid-dance. His films stitch together ritual, spontaneity, and cinematic clarity. Together, these works create a world where identity is not fixed, but fluid: a living choreography of self.

A key thread through Brandt’s practice is the idea of transformation. Like dance itself, his work is grounded in the now but always reaching forward, shape-shifting between disciplines and redefining the language of contemporary art. The studio becomes a rehearsal space. The gallery, a stage. Each artwork an invitation to witness change in real time.

Brandt is particularly interested in the politics of the body, its histories, its disciplines, and its potential for resistance. As an artist emerging from a form often sidelined in art history, he reclaims the power of street culture, movement, and personal narrative. His works are not only technical feats but also emotional offerings, pulling viewers into a visceral, participatory dialogue.

Having performed and exhibited internationally, Brandt is part of a new generation of artists who move seamlessly across mediums and genres. His work resonates with dancers, painters, filmmakers, and anyone attuned to the body as a site of story, tension, and transformation.

In every sense, Izaak Brandt choreographs with more than just movement, he choreographs with matter, with meaning, with memory. His multidisciplinary world is immersive, emotive, and charged with momentum, always inviting us to move with it.
